My first Big Day was a BIG disappointment. :( By eBird's count, I saw 50
species, but it counts the 4 sp. and the Greater/Lesser Scaup. By my
count, I saw only 45. Considering that yesterday's Dutch Gap birders saw
48 in just a few hours while I was gone from 7:30a-5:30p and drove 120
miles, it was a waste of time and gas. The only redeeming aspect of the
day was *finally* adding Northern Pintail, Snow Goose, and Redhead to my
life list.
Turkey Island Road was a ghost town. What could happen in a day or two to
cause that?
