Thanks, David. Sickening though it is, this information is precisely what I
was hoping to see from NAS. It will be interesting to see what media outlets
(if any) pick it up. I hope NAS is actively working to place the story.

  Hello Nancy and all,

I haven't seen anything that National Audubon has put out on passerine
species per se, but a recent article highlighted Arctic-breeding birds which
will soon start to return. Here is the link:

Bob - Thank you so much for the continuing information about the warblers
and for your ongoing work and that of your team, even throughout this severe
heat. Your most recent "individual interest" story highlights for me an
increasing concern I have about the oil cataclysm in the Gulf: What will be
the effect on the thousands of our beloved birds (warblers, thrushes, and so
many others) who stage on the barrier islands there prior to their cross-Gulf
journey this fall? I have not seen this issue raised in any national (or
local) press reports regarding the growing tragedy for wildlife (and people).
Is anyone anywhere (National Audubon, perhaps?) focusing on this issue and
publicizing the same?

I send this message to you personally and to those included in the RAS
ListServe mailings with the hope that someone has better information than I
relating to this matter and, if so, you will pass such information along. If
the matter is not one of focus, then perhaps we, as lovers of birds and other
wild creatures and places and as RAS members, can request NAS to create a press
release about the same and provide the information to all appropriate national
media. Regionally, it also seems pertinent given proposed drilling off
Virginia's shores and the prospectively related issue of critical migration
routes along the Eastern Shore and across the Chesapeake Bay from Fisherman's
Island, et al..

    Again, many thanks.

    Nancy Ambler

Under the heading of individual interest stories, it may be noted that 8
year old female 225011104 is known to have produced two broods each season
every year from her initial capture as a 2+ yr old adult in 2004 through the
current 2010 season, excepting only 2009 when we could only document one brood.
  A remarkable legacy indeed.

        Hi Folks,

Successful migrating Prothonotary Warblers make a 5000+ mile round trip
each year, including two nonstop crossings of the Gulf of Mexico. Through July
2nd we have captured 133 returned adult breeders at Dutch Gap this year that
were originally banded at the project in prior years. Thought some you might be
interested in the age distribution of those adults:

minimum age in # of years adults %
        8 2 1.5%
        7 1 0.8%
        6 4 3.0%
        5 9 6.8%
        4 17 12.8%
        3 30 22.6%
        2 34 25.6%
        1 36 27.1%
        all 133 100.0%

The 8yr olds are longevity records for this species.

        Best,
        Bob Reilly
