Northern Saw Whet Owl migration is in full swing with huge numbers of Saw Whets being banded in Canada, NY, PA and other northward sites.

We have started netting these little guys 10 days earlier than ever (for our site) and in greater numbers. Most birds are HY (hatch year). We had one FR (foreign recovery) from PA, banded as a HY in PA in 2010 and one of our 2011 owls has been recaptured in Ontario. We also had an Eastern Screech Owl visit our nets-a first for us.
