Ran threw Henricus this morning about 9 am for a few minutes and had great looks at 2 Least Bitterns with little effort. The birds were seen about 50 yards straight off the first platform as you drive in. They made frquent short flights back and forth to the same area in the marsh (? nest). The vegetation is quite dense but the Bitterns occasionally perched on snags for long looks. Other birds seen/heard: Yellow Warbler Yellow-throated warbler Blackpoll Prothonotary Common Yellow throat Indigo Bunting Blue-grey gnatcatcher Orchard Oriole Eastern Bluebird Canada Geese with goslings ...and the other usual residents. A huge snapping turtle was in the road as I pullled inand made a safe crossing. Julie Kacmarcik Chester You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
