From Al Warfield, VP of RAS

The RAS Board members have had an email discussion and decided that RAS wants
to support the resolution by council member Kathy Graziano, and mentioned in
the Richmond Times Dispatch editorial on Friday 1/-21/05. The resolution would
start the process to place the James River Park under a conservation easement
that would prevent sale or development of the land, or at least severely
regulate any development. There are more details about the resolution shown
below in the text of an email from Scenic Virginia., forwarded by Nelda Snyder.

The RAS Board encourages you to send emails to all the council members with
this statement:

"I (we) fully support Resolution 2005-R210 for a conservation easement for the
James River Park."

If you want to ad other brief points, please do, but it's not necessary. The
council will be hearing the proposal this Monday night, so do this over the
weekend if at all possible. The email below contains links to the email
addresses of all council members.

email from Leighton Powell of Scenic Virginia:

Scenic Virginia members and supporters in Richmond --

Today's Richmond Times-Dispatch features an editorial voicing support for a
proposed conservation easement for the James River Park. Although the editorial
errs regarding the technical description of Resolution 2005-R210 (the
resolution does not place an easement on James River Park but rather is a first
step that directs the City Attorney to start the process), the editorial
rightly notes the historic and scenic importance of the James River Park to all
Richmonders, and it encourages support of the proposal to preserve the Park's
history and beauty through a conservation easement.

City Council will hear Resolution 2005-R210 at Monday night's meeting, and we
encourage you to voice your support to Council members today using the contact
information below. (Note: You don't need to provide a lot of back-up
information; a quick email or voicemail stating your support for Resolution
2005-R210 is enough.) Then, if you are able, plan to attend the City Council
meeting on Monday at 6:00 p.m. (in Council Chambers, 2nd Floor of City Hall,
900 East Broad Street).
