Look for trees/bushes with berries - they particularly like holly. I don’t find
Cedar Waxwings very predictable - they find a food supply, strip it bare, then
move on. But they tend to stay in good sized flocks, and often hang out with
flocks of robins.

Any suggestions of where to catch a flock of cedar waxwings today?

We had seven hearty birders brave the winds for our monthly walk at Henricus
Historical Area/Dutch Gap Conservation Area today. We had clear skies, but
consistent strong breezes. Duck numbers were down, but the variety was
pretty good, with Ring-necked Ducks, Gadwall, Northern Shovelers, Wood
Ducks, Northern Pintail, Mallard, Bufflehead all represented, along with
one female Lesser Scaup. American Coots and a couple of Pied-billed Grebes
rounded out the waterfowl. Several Bald Eagles soaring over the marshes kept
the ducks stirred up. Along with the eagles, we had both Vultures,
Cooper’s Hawk, Red-shoulderd Hawk and American Kestrel, giving us a
representative of all the expected raptor families. Tree Swallows were
everywhere, giving us a nice harbinger of Spring. We also did fairly well on
sparrows, missing Junco, but finding White-throated, Song, Savannah and
Field. Though not numerous, we did see or hear both Kinglets. We were
serenaded by Meadowlarks all morning, and had a couple of good looks toward
the end of the day.
