Had a great weekend of Northern Saw-whet owl banding at Powhatan WMA. From Friday evening until just before sunrise today netted 14 Northern Saw-whet Owls. (+ 2 recaps of our own). 1 bird we netted was a FR (foreign recovery) that the Bird banding lab has records of the owl being banded as a hatch-year bird in 2006 in Delta, Manitoba, Canada. Interesting catches and numbers between all our banding sites. (unofficial count for all 3 sites 45)
Thanks to the folks who drive many miles to help me and run on very little sleep and nutrition to spend nights in the woods to catch these amazing birds and learn more and more about them.
Here's s couple images of the weekend.
Good night all.
