Thanks. I should have also said that i got to watch him for a good 2 or 3
minutes, even as he perched on a prominent eye-level branch, and that tail
never moved once. So I figured it wasn't a Hermit.

That’s the blah-est of all the thrushes, the Gray-cheeked. You’re right that
it’s not a Swainson’s because it lacks the spectacles (I prefer to call them
“goggles” because that makes more sense to the 21st century person). We can
rule out Veery, Wood, and Hermit because the color is wrong. And we can rule
out Bicknell’s by location since they migrate in a very narrow corridor along
the Atlantic coast. Nice find, these guys are pretty stealthy.
