Sunday, at the Wetlands, I observed a pair of Gnatcatchers gathering
spider webs, which I surmised was for nest building.

Subject: [va-richmond-general] Gnatcatcher nest

At Henricus Park in Chesterfield Co. this morning I observed a
gnatcatcher nest-building. The nest appeared practically complete, and
was about 20 feet off the ground on a horizontal branch of a willow.
Too bad its too high to observe eggs. They sure get to work right away
as they can't have arrived until the last days of March or very early
April. This contrasts with L. Waterthrush, which have basically the
same arrival dates, but don't get around to nest building for several
weeks. Paul Bedell Richmond
