You do indeed have a Fox Sparrow. The bold maroon color, gray on the face
and chevron-shaped marks on the breast are key field marks to look for.
They aren't very common at feeders, but they're not uncommon either.
They're shyer than other sparrows, so you're more likely to see them near
bushes than out in the open like a Chipping or Song.

Today was Feederwatch day and I saw several birds in the yard that are
unusual for us.
I believe we had a Fox Sparro Can look at these pictures and confirm or
deny; I would be grateful. Apologies for the poor pictures - my good
camera is still in Florida.
We also had the following:
-a song sparrow with an abbreviated tune. Sometimes 2 notes, but often
3-5.
-a chipping sparrow
- a brief visitation from a cedar waxwing
and our usual visitors:
-Tons of goldfinches
-house finches
-house sparrows, ( Much fewer than before the snow)
-chickadees
-WB Nuthatch
-Carolina Wren
-Robins
-Mourning Doves
-Starlings
-Common grackle
-Blue Jay
-Tons of White-throated Sparrows
-Tons of Juncos
No sign of our resident pair of Downey woodpeckers or Red-bellied
Woodpecker today.
