To the people of both RASs: Is there anything you are doing that is worthy of being on Channel 12 in Andrew Freiden's weekly feature? Such things might include the International Year of Astronomy, good images you obtain through your telescope or CCD equivalent, sightings of unusual birds, bird banding events, bird count projects, or how light pollution adversely affects either viewing the sky or the migration of birds. Channel 12 has already did a segment on the Ripoff Project about the star registry naming ripoff. Jim, We did a piece for TV at the Science Museum years ago-thought you'd be a great person to send the following stock email. Do you or any of your RAS folks have any ideas on stories in the near future? Thanks, Andrew I'm sending the following note out to anyone I can think of. Feel free to forward it to friends. THANKS! Dear Sir or Madam, I'm excited to write that we're starting a new weekly feature here at NBC 12. Our goal is to inform and engage our viewers about things happening in the world of science and nature. It's something I've always wanted to do here at Channel 12 but I haven't had the time or resources to accomplish it. But that has changed! I'll be working with special projects producer Matt Boyce to produce a segment that will air once a week in our evening newscasts. That means 52 stories per year and I'll need your help to reach that goal. Are you or your colleagues working on any interesting research that you thinks deserves some publicity? Is there an event of note involving science and nature that you think we should cover or promote? Is your company developing a new product or service that will save people money while reducing energy use? Do you know of someone who is working on a science project in their garage that you find fascinating? Are you an architect, builder, or landscaper who is working something that's on the cutting edge of sustainability? Are you a grower or farmer who is developing or implementing a new technique? Are you a member of a group that spends time and effort on projects that protect or enhance our region's outdoor spaces? I'm excited about this new project and think it could be a great way to educate the public about some of the amazing things happening in the world around us. Please send me an email if you have story ideas. I look forward to working with you in the future!
