We saw a first spring male Summer Tanager in the Henricus Citie area on a low branch as well. It was a little further away than 6 feet, but I did get a few decent pictures. It had a yellow belly and red everywhere else. Got right on top of a male summer tanager. It was gleaning on low foliage. I've never seen one so close to the ground before. In fact, at one point it was on the ground! I thought these were mainly tree-top birds. It also did not seem to be very shy. I was able to follow it around within about six feet. Wish I'd had my camera. oh well! Ben Yahoo!
