A very pleasant walk through Henricus early afternoon today. Yellow-throated warblers were singing as I pulled through the gate. Six Blue-winged Teal sat with the turtles in the swamp and Tree Swallows were swarming overhead. At the end of the boardwalk 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were first heard then spotted. After a lot of searching a Barred Owl was seen deep in the woods and sounded off. Osprey, Canada Geese and Red-shouldered Hawks are sitting on the nest. Zebra Swallowtails are flitting around and 3 snakes were enjoying the warm sunshine. Sadly, speed records were being broken on the speedway in front of the Heron rookery and many, many people were seen making their own trails through the woods down to the boardwalk breaking off any branch that got in their way......
