Hey folks....  Here is an opportunity for some birding near Emporia the
weekend prior to the VSO Annual Meeting in Richmond.

April 20-21, 2002
Mike and Pat Jones will open Springview Farm / River?s Edge to all
interested birders on Saturday and Sunday (April 20?21, 2002).  This
sprawling property adjoins the beautiful Nottoway River in northern
Greensville County, Virginia.  It is located on the fall-line of
Virginia, twelve miles north of Emporia, Virginia, and offers excellent
birding opportunities in a variety of ecosystems.  Approximately 350
contiguous acres will be accessible.
Existing ecosystems include non-tidal wetlands, mature hardwood forest,
regenerated pine forest, old-field sites, riparian haunts, etc. 
Approximately four miles of walking trails will be open to birding and
wildlife-watching enthusiast. Two individuals recorded sixty-two species
of birds in one morning last spring.  Mountain type bicycles will be
allowed if desired.  Guides/Group Leaders will be provided as necessary. 
A $10.00/person donation will be requested for The American Cancer
Society (Relay for Life Team).  Please come spend the day (or both days);
make it a family weekend in the country.  Attendees should provide their
own food, drink and/or picnic lunch (backpacks suggested).  Area will be
open from sunrise to sunset on Saturday and Sunday.  
Pre-registration is highly recommended and can be accomplished by simply
calling (434) 634-9719 (after 6:00 PM) or via E-mail at
?mpkact@xxxxxxxxxxx?.  Springview Farm / River?s Edge (residence) is
located at 11254 Purdy Rd (Hwy 619), Jarratt, VA 23867 and will be the
meeting point for all attendees as they arrive throughout the day.  Event
will be held rain-or-shine.  Lodging can be found in Emporia, VA (Hampton
Inn, Best Western, Holiday Inn, Days Inn).  Some primitive/low-impact
campsites may be available upon request.
