VA-birders,
I am a visiting birder from Oregon who is staying with my friend Lydia Weary,
here in Roanoke. (I posted an RFI for VA birding a month or two ago.) We have
done some birding and we hope to do more. However, we aren't experts so we were
looking for some people to bird with us on some specific days that are coming
up.
--Friday the 14th: Virginia Beach area. (We are looking for shorebirds, Greater
Black-backed Gull, American Oystercatcher, and any/all other East Coast
specialties. We will be there in the very early morning.)
--Sunday the 16th: Great Dismal Swamp. (Anything here; especially Rails,
Swainson's Warbler [with luck], etc.)
--Sunday night, the 16th. We'd love to go owling in the Roanoke area!
Whip-poor-wills, East. Screech-Owl, Barred; we'll take what we can get.
--Early Monday morning, the 17th. This will be our chance to catch up on
Warblers we have missed. We were thinking Warbler Road on the Parkway near
Roanoke, or anywhere else good for warblers. We still need a lot of them! My
flight leaves Monday afternoon so we only have the morning to bird.
One more thing: We would love any tips on where we could possibly see
Red-cockaded Woodpecker. Like I said, we're in the Roanoke area now, and will
be going up to Virginia Beach and area near there, so anywhere around these
areas would be good.
Thanks very much in advance!
