Have you considered that it might be the "raspy" barking call of the Red Fox?
There is one behind my house that had me wishing/hoping it was an owl of some
kind until the vixen paraded six kits out for me to see on Mother's Day the
following spring.
Hi

Does anyone know of where I might be able to locate a recording of a
Long-eared Owl, in particular a contact or alarm call?   Anyone have any
suggestions as to what may be making a call I've heard 3 times in the last
week around my house?  I live just off Beulah Rd near Manchester Lakes
shopping center in Alexandria, VA.  This call is a raspy bark-like sound
(very similar to the Short-eared Owl calls I've heard at Bombay Hook),
repeated 3 times in a series.  I've heard it between 10:30 and 11:30 at
night.  Sounds vaguely like a Green Heron squawk or Pheasant, only not as
loud, raspy, or as long.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Robin
