Sorry for the belated list, but for those of you
who are interested here are the totals for last
Sunday's (June 11) USGS Breding Bird Survey on
the Taylorstown Route which goes from Taylorstown
through Waterford, Paeonian SPrings, and
Leesburg, past Banshee Reeks and Dulles Wetlands,
and ending just the other side of route 15, all
in Loudoun Co. These surveys are run along
roads, stopping every .5 miles and recording the
birds observed in three minutes. They are 50
stops long. It was a cool morning, starting at 48
windy degress at 5:12, and finishing at 58 at
10:30.
There were more raptors than usual, especially
kestrels. Other nice surprises were bobolink and
mississippi kite which I reported last week. Most
widely-distributed bird was mockingbird; most
abundant bird was starling.
The first number is the total. The second is the
number of stops it was noted at.
