Greetings Virginia Birders-
Observed what I believe was a red-tailed hawk today at the Pentagon. I have
seen him perched atop the security cameras on top of the building before,
but I have not seen him lately. I'm not 100% positive, as I don't feel
pointing high-powered binoculars at the building would be the wisest
maneuver.
I'm positive about the red hue of the tail from above (as he soared in to
land), and a pale underside. I thought that he was a bit small for a
red-tailed but don't really have much to measure against. He must be on the
lookout for the hundreds of house sparrows and starlings which spend time
there.
Happy Birding!
Derek
