The birding was interesting at Observatory Hill (O-Hill) this morning
(25 April), despite the rather cool temperatures and unrelenting wind.
Alex Merritt, Mike Iwanik, myself, and others enjoyed a fairly active
morning that included AMERICAN REDSTART, NASHVILLE WARBLER,
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER (many), GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, WHITE-EYED VIREO, and
BLUE-HEADED VIREO. =20

I spent a cold couple of hours birding yesterday morning (Sunday 24
April) at Lake Albemarle and along Sugar Hollow Road, as far as the
reservoir. The most interesting birds I saw were two GREAT EGRETS and a
SPOTTED SANDPIPER at Lake Albemarle.

I participated in an outstanding three-hour wildflower walk in the
Monticello / Albemarle County woods Saturday morning (23 April). I
learned a great deal about VA wildflowers, shrubs, and trees from our
excellent guide. I also heard my first WOOD THRUSH of the year and saw
a SPOTTED SANDPIPER along the Rivanna.

Thursday evening 21 April my spouse, Laura Long, and I had our yard's
first WHIP-POOR-WILL, a bird that called repeatedly from the trees along
our driveway (near White Hall).=20
