I thought there might be a few migrants about, so I squeezed in about 30
minutes of time at Craney Island this morning right at 0700 before heading
to work. I really was hoping for a few warblers, so I stuck to the thin
edge of trees along the south side of the area. I didn't hit 10 species of
warblers, but I am easy to impress when it come to those guys. I was quite
pleased.
Golden-crowned Kinglet (4)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (1)
Northern Parula (1)
Black-throated Green Warbler (1)
Black and white Warbler (2)
American Redstart (1)
Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warbler (3 - heard only)
Pine Warbler (2)
Palm Warbler (3)
Common Yellowthroat (2)
Swamp Sparrow (1)
I had to add in the sparrow and kinglets -- wonderful looks at these guys.
In fact, I had great looks at all the warblers too, except the Myrtles. I
did not see them at all, but that "chip" note brought back memories of them
from earlier this year. Most of the warblers were in the same loose flock.
I almost fell over at seeing them flying about. A group of 5 Chimney Swifts
few over, which was nice. I keep thinking I may be able to spend more time
at Craney, but non-bird stuff keeps popping up and interferes. Hopefully
next week will be better.
