I took a walk through Metz this morning and found several good birds that =
I assume are nesting. These include a least bittern calling from the =
eastern-most pod, a warbling vireo in the same area, a redstart in the =
thickest plot of trees between the parking lot and the eastern pod, and a =
willow flycatcher from the area near the blind. =20
An interesting sight was about 20 snapping turtle nest sites that had been =
excavated by (I assume)raccoons. Eggshells littered the ground in many =
areas. Based on the number of nest sites that were found, there must be a =
lot of snappers in the wetlands. A rather large one was crossing the road =
near the parking lot.
