Previously, the LO date in my yard was September 19, a couple of years ago. In
a typical year, I cease to see any hummers by the second week of September,
although others within just a few miles (Ffx Co.) continue to see them into
October. Perhaps, the urban environment of Arlington contributes to the early
departures.
However, this morning, what appeared to be an immature male noisily let his
presence be known. Going only to the flowers that are abundant while ignoring
all the feeders (which I can't bring myself to take down just yet), he buzzed
me beneath the porch within a foot or two of my face. I can't guarantee it was
a male, though he did have a noticeable dark patch on his throat.
October 2, by far, is the latest sighting in my yard.
Simultaneously, a Magnolia warbler appeared out of nowhere, just a few feet
away, which I've never had in my yard before.
