VA-Birders:

A bander with the Alabama-based  Hummingbird
Study Group, that captures and bands hummingbirds
in 19 states, caught and banded a Rufous
Hummingbird in Washington County, VA today (11/23).

The bird was a hatching year (immature) female.
It had been present since August!

Chris Sloan of Nashville was in the region and
captured three other Rufous hummers in nearby
Northeast Tennessee.  A fourth bird near the
North Carolina border was not present and could
not be taken.

Sloan left Bristol enroute to Danville, Kentucky
this evening  following  a very successful
hummingbird banding day that nearly tied his all-time
record for hummers banded in a single day.  He
banded four Rufous hummers.

Let's go bridning.....
