I have seen and heard the exact same thing. Blue jays in the woods near us
also mimic the RS Hawks that are in residence nearby. On a walk one day, two
jays perched in a tree above me mimicked the RS. It's almost as if you have
to see them caught in the act to believe it.
The male towhee that's been hanging around our yard most of the winter is
singing his little heart out, "drink-your-teeeeee!," mostly early in the
morning right outside our bedroom window. Other times when he calls, I hear
a reply across the neighborhood somewhere, but so far no Mrs. Towhee.
