Hello everyone,
I put some photos of the Green-tailed Towhee on my website.
http://www.virginiabirding.org/images.htm
These were taken by Bill Perkins, brother of Bob and Rena Perkins, the
very nice hosts of the bird and by Don Carrier, another visitor. There
are only three previous records of this species in the state and none
with existing physical evidence so these photos will move this species
from only category 2 acceptance to category 1 acceptance. The previous
records were
1. a specimen (whereabouts unknown) from Bower's Hill, Chesapeake (then
Norfolk) on 26 Jan 1908
2. Newport News, 26 Feb-22 Apr 1953.
3. Amelia, 7-11 Apr 1953.
We've been waiting a long time for this species to come back to Virginia!
