There have been several recent sightings of Golden Eagles in Highland
County, one immature just last weekend circling over my driveway,for
example. This time of year, there are probably plenty of hunting carcasses
left in the woods for them to feed on. As part of our 2006 Eagle Watch here
in the county, observers have reported the presence of both species of
eagles, both immature and adult birds, in all months of the year! As you
make plans to see some of these magnificent birds this winter, either
individually or as bird clubs, please note that we are keeping track of all
eagle
sightings. In your report, please include date, species, age (if known),
location
of sighting, and what the bird was doing. You can send all sightings to
hevener@xxxxxxxxxx with the specifics. By the way, there is an immature
Bald that has a radio transmitter in a small backpack that has been hanging
out in Bath/Highland for several weeks. If you spot this bird with its little
antenna, be sure to let me know. Also, I would love to join you on any of
your birding excursions to Highland County!
