Sunday, Nov 6, after enjoying a spectacularly
beautiful couple hours missing the LeConte's
Sparrow at Occoquan Bay NWR (my second miss), I
drove on down to the Upper Northern Neck from
King George ponds (on route 3) to George
Washington's Birthplace and Leedstown in
Westmoreland County.
Highlights were a cackling goose, a redhead, 2
bonaparte's gulls, 2 black scoter males, 2 purple
finch, and big numbers of ring-necked ducks,
wigeons, and rusty blackbirds.

KG is King George ponds, L is Leedstown, GWB is
Washington's Birthplace. AT King George the most
productive pond was the one visible from LaGrange
Rd. Remember to stay on the paved road here.
The landowners are very sensitive about people
stepping on the grass.
