Happily, I have been close friends with many rural older Americans.
Unhappily, most of them are now deceased. The term "chicken hawk" was, and
is,
used by these folks for accipiters that will attack chickens, if given the
opportunity. And yes, these hawks used to be shot and killed because that was
the
accepted method for people to protect their free-roaming chickens.
