One cattle egret was present this evening at dusk near the stone bridge on
the GW parkway on the south edge of old town, Alexandria. It posted up on the
pilings on the east side of the bridge around 5pm. At 5:15 it flew down to the
mudflats that were emerging - staying on the east side of the bridge. Hunkered
down in the thousand or so gulls that were present, it could have been
difficult to pick out had I not seen where it landed - with its neck pulled
in, it
was about the size of a RB Gull. Around 5:30, something got the masses riled
up, the CE flew and was lost in the dark...Sunset tonite was
