Hello birders,
Myself and one other will be heading out to SW VA (most likely Wise but
possibly Scott County) this weekend to do some bird surveys for the
Audubon Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program, which I coordinate. I am
hoping to round up at least a couple more good birders to help out with
these surveys on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings. I may be able to
provide transportation to the survey area for those who are interested
in doing hiking routes rather than driving routes and I can also provide
free camping. The only requirement is the ability to identify the birds
in this area. I can teach the methodology (point counts) before going
out.
The surveys will be conducted on Forest Service lands in the Clinch
Ranger District (a gorgeous area of Virginia) with target species being
Swainson's and Cerulean Warblers. Survey data from this area will allow
us to assess whether this area or parts of it will qualify as an
Important Bird Area.
