Howdy!
Today I visited several sites in northern
Westmoreland County from about 11:00 to 5:30:
George Washington's Birthplace and Muse Road on
the Potomac and a few places in the Leedstown
area near the Rappahannock.
The most exciting bird was the bobolink which I
watched for several minutes in beautiful
afternoon light. It was in a weedy field next to
Liberty Farm Rd at the Mothershead Tract of the
Rappahannock River Valley NWR in Leedstown. This
is the latest I have ever seen a bobolink. More
geese and swans are back but the numbers of ducks
still remains fairly low. Both rivers were calm
and visibility was excellent.
