Birders,
A visit to Occoquan NWR this morning netted a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher in the
bare tree next to the gazebo. It stood out quite nicely against the morning
sky
and the light was excellent, the yellow was very evident in the throat and
breast.
Also seen here was an immature NORTHERN HARRIER, 3 BALD EAGLES and
sundry regulars. Actually, pretty quiet.
From here I was off to the "new" Remington sod farms where Todd Day had
reported BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS. Sure enough, Todd and Mike Day
were there by the field with the Buffies. I did see one of them, but they
were
obscure (translation: darned hard to see in the dirt). Todd reported this
sighting earlier I believe.
On my way home from Remington I stopped at the sods in Nokesville, which
are kinda skimpy, one might say. Also a tractor was working one of the
fields. Other fields look like they've been planted with some broad-leafed
crop. I came up empty-handed here and headed for the barn
