There have been a group of Wilson's Snipe at Bles Park in Ashburn for
at least the last few weeks. I'd usually see them briefly as they
would flush, only to land out of view behind a clump of vegetation.
This evening, however, I counted a group of at least 35 of them
feeding out in the open. The lighting was excellent, and they were
close enough to see well, yet far enough away that they weren't
bothered by me watching them. I don't know that I've ever seen so many
of them so well before. They were in the large open wet grassy area
close to the pond and the longer bridge. If you go to look for them,
afternoon/evening would be best, since the sun will be behind you.
