Thanks to all that replied to me.
The overall feeling is that the Turkey was just passing through the area,
via the small patches of woods and waterways in the area. The location of
the sighting is between the Four Mile Run and Cameron Run areas. These birds
are getting more "urbanized". I quote one of the respondents "turkeys are
everywhere now. If deer can do it, turkeys can."

Subject: [va-bird] Wild Turkey in Alexandria!!??
At 7:10 am today, as I was driving to work, a lone turkey calmly crossed
the road in front of me. This happened on Braddock Rd. between Van Dorn St
and Hampton Rd, right after the I 395 underpass. I am having trouble
believing what I saw and wish I had my camera with me...there would have
been plenty of time for a picture.
Has anyone recently seen any Turkeys (avian type) in this area or know of
anyone that would keep turkeys as pets and it could have gotten out? The
reason I ask is that it is a highly urbanized area, with minimal wooded
areas that I believe are suitable for turkeys.
