VA-Birders,

I received a phone call from Larry Cartwright this morning telling me that Ed Eder had seen possible White-faced Ibises at Huntley Meadows. I have never seen a White-faced Ibis and so I am reluctant to say for certain that the ibises I photographed there about midday today are, in fact, White-faced. I saw three birds, one seemed to be a Glossy with a pencil-thin whitish line around the facial skin. It didn't extend across the top of the dark, not red, eye. The other two appear to be White-faced. They had a much wider white margin completely around the facial skin, a red iris, and the skin between the eye and the base of the bill was reddish. The legs did not appear bright red to me, but a deeper reddish-purple. This may have been due to the lighting conditions.

I hope they stay around for awhile giving many of you a chance to see them. There was a lot of glare on the glossy feathers and mid-day is not the best time to photograph these birds. If they are around tomorrow morning, the light may be better. My photos are at http:// upload.pbase.com/edit_gallery/paulasullivan/white_faced_ibis
