My husband and I had many long good looks at the white pelican from the
Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge on Ft. Belvoir, VA today. When we got there at
about 12:30 PM, the pelican was floating on the far side of the bay across
from the archery range parking lot. It took off and flew south towards
Gunston Cove and then circled back, landed and swam farther into Accotink
Bay, where it was visible from the Basin Loop trail. It looked like it was
feeding a bit, but mostly preened. It drifted back out to the main area and
was visible again from the parking lot when we left about 2PM.
I'll post pictures to my blog later.
