Last week I woke to what I thought might be the flickeresque breeding call of
a Cooper's hawk. Sure enough, I saw two Coops in the park across the street.
Perched by a pile a sticks high in a tree. I only had a good look at one --
it was an immature. I have heard or seen the birds several times since then.
Most interesting was Monday morning when I found the birds perched in
another tree. The immature was plucking some avian prey. An adult was
perched a few feet away. I wondered which was which. As if they could hear
my thoughts, they demonstrated. The immature female barely skipped a beat in
her meal . . . .
Still no evidence of incubating, but I remain hopeful.
Also had my first catbird of the year calling behind my neighbors house.
