Birders,
Last week a friend of mine in Chesapeake showed me some beautiful pictures
of a male Western Tanager that came to her yard late December.
Just this week I heard of a female Western Tanager spotted in Castleton
sub-division in Virginia Beach and today was able to view a picture of it. I
live
about a mile away from the one being reported In Castleton. While talking on
the phone with the person who took the picture I looked out back and much to
my surprise I had a male Western Tanager on a feeder pole in the back yard.
As I ran downstairs to see it better and my husband ran for the camera....you
guessed it....the bird flew away...not to return. I will keep a lookout for
it and will keep suet in the suet feeder and peanuts on the tray feeder as
that is what the other birds were eating.
Be on the lookout Tidewater birders!
