If you don't mind looking like a freak, you can also wear full bug netting over
your clothes. This stuff is nice because you can wear shorts and still get the
breeze through the netting.

On this site is a four page summery of the risks and
hazards specifically relating to West Nile Virus faced by Ornithologists
working with birds in the field. I thought perhaps many of the birders
on this list serve would be interested in not just the info on West Nile
Virus but also the appendix regarding the use of Deet. I have heard a
great deal about how dangerous using Deet is supposed to be, so when I
read about the low number of toxic cases in relation to the extremely
high number of uses over the last 40 years I felt much relieved. I have
often endured misquote bites thinking that the alternative was worse,
but not anymore.
