Birders at Huntley Meadows (Fairfax County) this morning did have close-ups
of both sora and VA rails (sometimes in one glass, providing a double-header of
lifers for one observer). The American bittern made an appearance and all
three regular swallows were in evidence (barn, tree, N. rough-winged).
Other firsts for the spring (for me) included a gray catbird near the tower,
two separate singing black-throated green warblers, scarlet tanager and
towhees...
...but no black rail.
