Twenty-two people participated in the bird walk at the Banshee Reeks Nature
Preserve in central Loudoun Co (www.bansheereeks.org) yesterday morning, Sept.
10. Because of the number of people we split into two groups w/Kurt Gaskill,
Mary Ann Good & Jay Keller leading one group and John Drummond the other. A
few of us were fortunate enough to survey, with permission, the Dulles Greenway
Wetlands Mitigation Project before hand. The highlights of the 84-species day
included an immature Bald Eagle begging food from an BALD EAGLE at the
Wetlands, VIRGINIA RAIL & SORA (heard) at the Wetlands. A TENNESSEE, a
NASHVILLE, a WILSON'S & a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER were among the 12 warblers seen
at Banshee. Most of the warblers were found in in one large (or two small)
loose group(s) on the Old Field Loop.
Don't forget that Banshee is open to the general public next week (the 3rd
weekend of the month) on Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 17 & 18, from 8 am to 4 pm
and there will be a butterfly walk sponsored by the Loudoun Wildlife
Conservancy (www.loudounwildlife.org) & FOBR at 10 am on the 17th.
