VA BIRDers,
The Wandering Siskins are pleased to take part in The Golden Chase next
weekend (19 May) in Highland County, raising funds to cover radio telemetry
monitoring of Highland County Golden Eagles. This is a very worthwhile
backyard project - especially since there is few records of Golden Eagles
this side of the Mississippi in May or June or July or August except in
Highland County! The Wandering Siskins solicit your donations in support of
our birdathon task. All funds support the Golden Eagle Telemetry project
and will be deposited with the VSO. Here is your chance to support a local
project that will yield new information. Write me with your support
(kurtcapt87 at verizon.net). Details of The Golden Chase can be found on
this website

AND, you don't have to be on a team to come up and visit. There are many
private properties open to donors just for this event - places that are
normally closed to birders (please step over Margaret's rattlers!).
Fantastic locations that have produced June breeding Yellow-rumped Warblers,
Golden-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrush, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Winter
Wrens, Golden-winged Warblers, Bobolinks, Purple Finch and Brown Creepers.
And last year Northern Saw-whet and Long-eared Owls were recorded in this
area - in multiple locations! And the neo-trop migration through the
mountain ridges is massive!
Thank you!
Kurt Gaskill
