The Walkerton CBC will be on Sunday January 1
this year. This area is in the Middle Peninsula
about 3/4 hour from King's Dominion. Each sector
includes some shoreline along either the Pamunkey
or Mattaponi Rivers. Many landowners, some of
them hunters who manage their farms for wildlife,
have granted us permission to bird on their farms
on this day. The land use in the area has been
largely unchanged for the past twenty years:
farms, timber areas in various stages of
regrowth, marshes, wooded swamps, weedy fields,
and other fun places to explore. Several of my
sector leaders are unable to help this year so I
am looking for both experienced birders and
beginners to help out. I will provide maps and
suggestions for how to cover your sector and will
try to pair up people unfamiliar with the area
with those who are familiar with it.
We always meet after the count at a local food
establishment to compile the results.
