I birded Wakefield Park, Fairfax Co, VA, north or Braddock Road, just
outside the beltway, this morning from 5:45 to 7:45. I had only been =
here
once before, and was very glad I went back. It is basically a power-line
clearing with woods along the side, but a lot of birds were present. =
There
are lots of well maintained trails for walking along, that are used for
mountain biking. I saw a medium-sized passerine, maybe a Kingbird, =
chasing a
Red-tailed Hawk. The passerine was actually landing on the back of the =
hawk
as it flew away apparently undaunted by the small bird. It reminded me =
of
the myth of hummingbirds migrating on the backs of Canada Geese. I had a
very nice look at a White-eyed Vireo, only about 8 feet away, in an =
Autumn
Olive bush, singing continually. The Indigo Buntings were abundant as =
were
the Common Yellow-throat. Maybe they're not the rarest of birds, but
beautiful to look at! 35 species in all, listed below.
