I was a bit hasty in my identification. The bird I saw in the morning was
definitely a Palm: white outer tail spots, pumping of the tail when it
perched. The birds I saw later in the field were more likely Pipits. I would
not have expected them in a suburban park, and they have similar white on
the outer retrices. I guess my expectations influence my judgment. Yup, I'm
still learning!
