VA Birders,
This morning 3 other Arlington birders and I found a Vesper Sparrow and 2
Savannah Sparrows at Fort C.F. Smith Park in Arlington. This was the first
Vesper Sparrow I have recorded in Arlington County, and probably the second
record for the park (Charlotte Friend had one there in early May a few years
ago). Other highlights were a pair of Northern Rough-winged Swallows, the
first House Wren I've seen this year (altho I heard one in my yard
yesterday), 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and 2 Yellow-rumped Warblers (my first
of both species in Arlington this year), and a Brown Thrasher. We had a
thrasher singing in the park a week ago, so I hope maybe we will get a pair
of thrashers and they will nest in the park this year.
