Hello, birders.
I had fun birding with the VSO in Va. Beach and the CBBT this weekend. I saw a
couple of species by myself that I don't think others had this weekend that may
be of interest:
1 Osprey, early Saturday morning. It was soaring over the Lynnhaven Inlet.
1 large alcid sp. I assume it was a Razorbill given the southerly, near shore
location? I watched this bird through my scope flying south just over the
ocean at Back Bay NWR on Sunday afternoon. The bird was quite distant. After
watching it for a minute, it got almost out of sight and then another bird came
into view. By this time the birds had flown so far away from me that I
couldn't be positive that this second bird was even an alcid. But one alcid is
still cool. Sorry you missed it, Elisa!
Also, I just want to say that I finally got a 5 wren day at Back Bay/False Cape
on Sunday. Small milestone maybe but I've been hoping to sweep the wrens here
for quite a while and the birds cooperated at last. Yeah!
