John and I spent Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning working on
the VSO foray. We confined our efforts to Russell County ( primarily
near Lebanon). Among the highlights were two separate sightings of
Loggerhead Shrikes. A single bird was seen at the intersection of Routes
676 and 614 on Monday evening, and an adult feeding two recently fledged
young were found on June 7 along Route 682. Also of interest were two
colonies of Grasshopper Sparrows, one in the town of Lebanon (in a
reclaimed strip mine area) and another along Route 682.
