Hi all,
Posting an update on the Longspurs in Rockingham County that Greg Moyers, Diane
Lepkowski, and William Leigh found this morning, for anyone interested.
With roads looking safe this afternoon, my dad and I got out to try and
relocate the Longspurs. No Larks to be seen at the Scholars Rd field by
railroad crossing. A nice male/female Rusty Blackbird pair at this location
proved photogenic.
We moved on to Spaders Church Rd and found a Lapland Longspur in with a flock
of ~60 Horned Larks in the previously reported location (In horse field on
north side of Spaders Church Rd just west of Pleasant Valley Rd and just before
turn on Spaders Church Rd where it becomes a north/south road). Also 40 Am.
Pipits on Spaders Church Rd.
Other locations I checked today included Leonard's Pond (2. Am. Black Ducks,
Mallards, Geese, 20 Am. Pipits nearby) and Strickley Rd in Augusta (150+ Horned
Larks, 21 Am. Pipits, 1 Cooper's Hawk).
Good birding,
Gabriel Mapel
