I would like to expand on Larry Cartwright's comments. The Fairfax County
Board is due to vote on Monday, April 28th on the County budget which will
not only delay the opening of the park gates until 9:00 AM, but will reduce
the park staff to just three positions (including a single groundskeeper for
maintaining its 400 acres), limit access to the Visitors' Center to weekends
from Noon to 5:00 PM, and eliminate all programs including school field trips
and Scout programs.
Therefore, it is urgent that as birders and naturalists, we contact Fairfax
County Supervisors immediately to respond to their short-sightedness in not
recognizing the worth of this "jewel" of the Fairfax County Park System to
Northern Virginian residents. Below is how to contact the Chairman and your
District Supervisor.
